ACAF Timeline of Accomplishments & activities

2006

  • The Association of Canadian Archivists Foundation (ACAF) was established in June, incorporated, and granted charitable status.
  • Federally incorporated by the ACA.

2007–2008

  • Hosted the first virtual auction via eBay Canada, with proceeds to be awarded as scholarships in 2009.
  • Raffle and sale of pins/buttons at ACA Annual Conference.

2008–2009

  • Held an end-of-year donation campaign and conference raffle/pin sale.
  • Scholarships provided to three archival students for participation at ACA 2009.
  • Participated in Members-Input and Annual General Meeting sessions at ACA Conference.

2009–2010

  • Hosted second eBay Canada auction and attracted new regular donors through CanadaHelps.org.
  • Established the Scholarship Endowment Fund to provide long-term scholarship support for archival studies students.

2011–2012

  • Launched targeted fundraising to ACA Fellows and Past Presidents.
  • Produced and distributed an ACAF brochure at the Annual Conference in Toronto.
  • Funded graduate students’ participation at the ACA Conference in Whitehorse.
  • Received Certificate of Continuance under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.
  • Hosted information table and outreach activities at the ACA Conference.

2013

  • Continued targeted fundraising to ACA Fellows and former Directors.
  • Fundraising included a raffle, silent auction, and sports team initiative.
  • Expanded Endowment Fund while working toward a $100,000 goal before expanding the scholarship program.
  • Supported graduate students at ACA Conference in Victoria.

2014

  • Continued Fellows/former Directors fundraising campaign.
  • Fundraising included raffle and silent auction in Victoria, supported by the East & West ball teams.

2015

  • Fundraising activities included the sale of “Doughty Drawers” screen-printed items, raffle, and silent auction.
  • Provided scholarships for graduate student participation at ACA Conference in Victoria.
  • Continued building the Endowment Fund toward the $100,000 goal.

2016

  • Continued targeted fundraising to Fellows and former Directors.
  • Analyzed fundraising potential and created targeted outreach messages.
  • Endowment Fund surpassed the halfway point toward its goal.

2017–2018

  • Continued offering graduate student scholarships for ACA Conference participation in Ottawa.
  • Awarded the Ancestry Continuing Education Award to support Indigenous archival education.
  • Continued accepting applications for the award with a focus on diversity in the archival profession.

2019–2020

  • Adjusted the Ancestry Award timeline to allow for pre-registration support; postponed awarding in 2019 due to COVID-19, planning for two awards in 2020.
  • Shifted student support to cover conference registration for up to 50 students.
  • Endowment Fund continued to grow, with additional funds earmarked for investment.

2020

  • Endowment Fund neared the threshold to allow adjudication of scholarship awards.
  • Introduced option for donations during ACA conference registration and membership renewal.
  • Five-year agreement with Ancestry concluded.

2021–2022

  • Welcomed new board members Christine and Kyle.
  • Renewed agreement with Ancestry, maintaining the award with new criteria to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour in archival education.
  • Offer the ACA Annual Conference Student Voices Awards (Emerging Voices Awards) for virtual and hybrid conferences.
  • Endowment Fund surpassed $100,000, securing long-term scholarship capability.

2023–2024

  • Supported three archival students in the Emerging Voices panel at ACA Conference.
  • Created a new conference travel bursary for students and emerging professionals.
  • Offered subsidized conference registrations for students and precariously employed members.
  • Welcomed new board member Dr. Jo McCutcheon.
  • Began two-year sponsorship agreement with Artefactual Systems Inc., funding virtual conference attendance for students and travel support for the 2025 conference in Ottawa.
